In the States of Georgia and Alabama, a permit is required which adds $250 to the cost. Installers must be licensed - illegal installations are subject to a $1000 fine. Can I install my own stairlift?
Good question... some companies advertise on TV and the internet "install your own". They'll even send you a DVD... Understand that they are trying to move product only. By placing the burden of the installation in your hands, they save money while making money. First of all, the State of Georgia Dept. of Labor oversees the safety of these installations for a reason. Reports of poor work correspond to unsafe installs - If you install your own unit, you are still responsible for a permit and inspection. And if you have a service issue after the installation, we're a phone call away. You won't have that kind of service from an internet company. Please "Buyer Beware"...
